About Kaléo

Michael Wells is the chairman and chief executive officer for Kaléo. Michael is the founder and managing director of Princeton Biopharma Capital Partners, LLC, which he created for the purpose of providing growth capital to emerging healthcare and biopharma companies. He is also the chairman and acting CEO of Fidelis Animal Health, a portfolio company of Princeton Biopharma Capital. Prior to creating Princeton Biopharma Capital Partners, LLC, he was the founder and CEO of Aton Pharma, a pharmaceutical company focused on rare diseases, and he has been recognized as an Ernst & Young Entrepreneur of the Year. After selling Aton Pharma, he partnered with Cerberus Capital Management and invested in Covis Pharma Sarl, where he served on the board until 2020 when the company was acquired by Apollo. Michael began his career at Merck & Co. where he held a range of sales and marketing positions for more than eight years.

Michael received his BS in education and MS in physiology from the University of Pittsburgh and an MBA from The Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania. In addition to his board service for Kaléo and Fidelis, he is also on the board of directors for the UPMC Health System and a member of the board of trustees at the University of Pittsburgh.

Ted is Kaléo’s chief business officer, responsible for business development and key strategic growth initiatives. Prior to joining Kaléo, Ted held a similar role at privately held Summit Biosciences and senior leadership positions at Meridian Medical Technologies (Pfizer’s former subsidiary), King Pharmaceuticals, and Baxter International. Ted played an instrumental role in more than 50 transactions valued at more than $5 billion as a former investment banker and during his more than 20 years of executive experience in the pharmaceutical and biotechnology industries.

Ted earned an undergraduate degree from the University of Bridgeport, where he currently serves on the board of trustees, and an MBA from the McCombs School of Business of the University of Texas at Austin.

Dr. Matkovits is Kaléo’s chief development officer and is responsible for guiding Kaléo’s drug development strategy and advancing the company’s innovative auto-injector pipeline. With a distinguished track record in global drug development and commercialization, she will lend her deep expertise navigating complex regulatory landscapes and driving clinical programs across multiple therapeutic areas to expand Kaléo’s growing medical countermeasures business.

Prior to joining Kaléo, Dr. Matkovits served as chief development officer at Matinas Biopharma, leading the company’s clinical-stage assets and securing partnerships with organizations such as the NIH and the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation. Throughout her career, she has made significant contributions to drug development, regulatory advocacy, and commercialization in leadership positions at NPS Pharmaceuticals, The Medicines Company, and Novartis. Dr. Matkovits is currently the chairperson for the board of GoodCap Pharmaceuticals and is lead independent director for Appili Therapeutics.

Dr. Matkovits earned her Ph.D. in Biochemistry and Molecular Biology from the University of Medicine and Dentistry of New Jersey.

Chuck Nicholls is Kaléo’s chief manufacturing and supply chain officer and is accountable for the strategic oversight of the Kaléo supply chain network.  Responsibilities include quality, supply planning, strategic sourcing, supply chain management, technical services, and contract manufacturing. He  also serves as the technical representative on the on medical countermeasure programs with the U.S. Department of Defense and the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services Center for the Biomedical Advanced Research and Development Authority (BARDA).

Prior to joining Kaléo, Chuck served as senior director, supply chain operations, at AstraZeneca for several years. Previously, he held several positions in supply chain management at MedImmune, Starband Communications, and AAIPharma Services Corp.

Chuck earned his BS in industrial engineering from Texas A&M University and an MBA from the University of North Carolina, Wilmington.

George is Kaléo’s chief financial officer and has more than 40 years of experience leading the financial functions of small to mid-sized companies, working strategically with each company’s CEO and investors to enhance the long-term value of the business. Prior to joining Kaléo, George served as chief financial officer at Pharmaceutical Associates, Inc. He previously held financial leadership positions at various pharmaceutical and telecommunications companies.

George holds a BS in accounting from Seton Hall University.

As chief commercial officer, Al is responsible for growing Kaléo’s brand pharmaceutical business through optimization of its current products, such as the AUVI-Q® (epinephrine injection, USP) auto-injector, and integration of new products for incremental commercial growth. Prior to joining Kaléo, Al served as president of Covis Pharma USA. During his more than 25-year career in the pharmaceutical and medical industry, he held leadership positions at Eli Lilly and VIVUS.

Al holds both a BA and an MBA from the University of Miami.

As Kaléo’s Vice President, General Counsel and Chief Compliance Officer, Tina is responsible for overseeing the company’s legal strategy, corporate compliance programs, risk management, and alignment with healthcare regulations and corporate governance standards. Tina has more than 20 years of legal experience, representing organizations ranging from start-ups to Fortune 150 companies, both as outside and in-house counsel. Prior to joining Kaléo, Tina focused on commercial contracting and general business and corporate matters, gaining extensive experience drafting and negotiating agreements across industries. Her experience includes supporting day-to-day operations, mergers and acquisitions, joint ventures, and strategic transactions.

Tina earned a Bachelor of Science in Biology from the College of William & Mary and a Juris Doctor from the University of Virginia School of Law.

As vice president and controller, Steve is responsible for the day-to-day accounting operations at Kaléo. He previously served as senior director and controller at Kaléo. With nearly 30 years of experience in accounting, Steve also held accounting leadership positions at James River Coal and Ernst & Young/Arthur Andersen LLP.

Steve earned his BA in accounting from the University of Missouri – Columbia.

As Senior Vice President, global health security, Mark is responsible for leading Kaléo’s Government Sector business unit and the Company’s corporate affairs functions. Mark has more than 25 years of executive leadership experience at the national and international level spanning the biopharmaceutical and clinical laboratory industries. Additionally, Mark has participated in the launch of five FDA approved combination products. Prior to joining Kaléo, Mark held the position of senior vice president for corporate and governmental affairs with a leading advanced diagnostic clinical laboratory, as well as serving for twelve years as the executive director of the Virginia Biotechnology Association.

Mark earned his undergraduate degree from the College of William and Mary and his MBA from Virginia Commonwealth University

As Kaléo’s vice president of finance and strategic planning, Matthew is responsible for day-to-day finance operations, business development and financial evaluations and leading the strategic planning process for Kaléo. He has more than 15 years of experience serving in financial roles in companies ranging from Fortune 500 to startups. Prior to joining Kaléo, Matthew was in the global finance organization at Capital One. He previously served many public and private clients on various financial transactions while at Deloitte.

Matthew received his BA from William & Mary.

As Kaléo’s Vice President of Development, Mike oversees all development activities, including medical countermeasures for the military. With extensive expertise in combination products, Mike played a pivotal role in launching the first prefilled insulin injector at Eli Lilly and Company and later led the company’s reusable device programs, developing cartridge/device specifications and compatibility testing. At Kaléo, Mike has spearheaded the development and expansion of the company’s Aerio™ Auto-Injector platform.

Mike serves as Chairman of the International Standards Organization technical committee 84 (ISO/TC 84) Devices for administration of medicinal products and catheters and is a registered Professional Engineer. Mike holds both a Bachelor of Science in mechanical engineering and an MBA from Duke University.

As Kaléo’s Vice President of Market Access, David leads the company’s access and reimbursement strategies, pricing and contracts, and trade functions, ensuring affordable access for patients and customers. Bringing more than a decade of financial experience, David has held key financial roles in diverse industries, including positions in commercial finance at Dover Food Retail and roles at McKesson and “K” Line America.

David earned a Bachelor of Arts from Longwood University and an MBA from Virginia Commonwealth University.

Dr. Evan Bedil leads the healthcare investing strategy at Marathon Asset Management. He rejoined the firm in 2017 as managing director, having previously worked at Marathon as a vice president and the senior healthcare investment analyst investing in drug royalties and loans from 2005 to 2008. Prior to rejoining Marathon, Evan was a partner at Healthcare Capital Solutions/Crown Sterling LLC. From 2011 to 2015, Evan managed PDL BioPharma’s investments in drug royalties and structured credit that invested over $750 million. Following his business school studies, Evan also spent two years at Morgan Stanley in biotechnology equity research and was a board observer at Parnell Pharmaceuticals.

Evan earned an MBA from the University of Michigan Ross School of Business and his MBBCh (MD equivalent) from the University of the Witwatersrand Medical School in Johannesburg, South Africa.

Susan Graf currently works with Locust Walk on new biotech company formation. She has more than 25 years of operating and global leadership experience across pre-clinical entrepreneurial start-ups, mid-cap public biotech and large pharmaceutical companies. Prior to her work with Locust Walk, Susan was chief executive officer of a private cancer immunotherapy company as well as an officer at NPS Pharma and Epizyme, both NASDAQ listed public companies. At NPS Pharma, she led corporate development and strategy and helped grow the organization into a global, commercial, rare diseases company prior to the company’s sale to Shire. As Epizyme’s principal financial officer and chief business officer, she raised $160 million in public capital. Prior to her biotech experience, Susan spent nearly 18 years at Roche in several leadership and executive positions.

Susan earned her BS in pharmacy from Purdue University and her MBA from New York University Stern School of Business.

Before retiring from the U.S. Army in 2009, Major General (MG) Granger, MD, served as the deputy director and program executive officer of the TRICARE Management Activity, Office of the Assistant Secretary of Defense (Health Affairs) in Washington, DC. Prior to joining TRICARE Management Activity, MG Granger led the largest U.S. and multi-national battlefield health system in our recent history while serving as commander, Task Force 44th Medical Command, and command surgeon for the Multinational Corps Iraq. MG Granger, certified by the American Board of Internal Medicine and Board of Hematology and Oncology, is president and CEO of The 5Ps, LLC, a health care, education, and leadership consulting organization. He currently serves on the boards of Cigna (CI), Defense Logistics Health (DLHC), and Better Therapeutics, Inc. (BTTX).

MG Granger holds a BS in zoology/animal biology from Arkansas State University and his MD from University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences, College of Medicine.

Randy Raisman has served as the managing director in Marathon’s Capital Solutions Group since 2012. At Marathon, he leads several large investments for the funds across the healthcare, consumer retail, financial services, travel and leisure sectors and the Municipal Bond market. With more than 20 years of investing experience, he has worked at various firms, including Apax Partners, Durham Asset Management and Chatham Asset Management. Randy started his career in leveraged finance in the investment banking division at Credit Suisse First Boston.

Randy earned an MBA from Columbia University Graduate School of Business and an BBA and MAcc from the University of Michigan Ross School of Business.
